The joy of reunion came when father arrived at Herne Bay, where the
children and I were living in a furnished house, early in 1921!

Father, eager as usual to spread abroad interest in Missionary work,
soon started rushing about the country preaching, speaking at meetings
and exhibitions. In the spring of that year he was asked by C.M.S. to
take over the work of organising secretary in the Derby Diocese, as the
man who was doing that work had had an accident and broken his
leg. Of course he consented in spite of the fact that it meant
another separation as there was no accommodation for me and the
children.
The time had come for us to make a big decision -
With six children, what arrangements could be made for their holidays,
if they all went to school at St. Michael's when we returned to
Africa? There were no schools up country in those days such as
there are now to which we could have sent them. After the unhappy
experiences I and my sisters had had when youngsters when our parents
left us at a school in Kent, we decided to ask C.M.S. to release us for
two years in order to make a home in England for our children.
This would give us time to think and pray about our future.
In May of that year 1921 father was offered and accepted the living at
Boulton, near Derby, and we moved into the Vicarage at the end of July.
